Rosanna Centi left Venezuela almost five years ago to offer her twelve year old son, Roberto, a better chance at life. She admits having fallen in love with the province of Quebec. Roger Deschênes met Rosanna and Roberto at La maison des grands-parents de Villeray, a non-profit agency where he has been volunteering for six years. He was Roberto’s tutor in a homework assistance program. More than a friend, Roger is now part of Rosanna and Roberto’s extended family in Canada. Thanks to Roger, Rosanna feels less alone as she goes about discovering her new country. And for Roberto, Roger is like an adoptive grandfather. Rosanna appreciates Roger’s assistance in helping her and her son’s to become part of Quebec society. For Rosanna, it is essential that her son be able to benefit from the wisdom and experience of older people. And Roger is happy to be able to give back to society by helping new immigrants adapt to the big “Québécois” family.
