Saint-Jacques, New Brunswick and Kingston, Ontario
Synopsis:
Robert Buteau, 65 years old, has had a successful career as a peacemaker in the Canadian U.N. forces. He is retired and lives in Saint-Jacques, in north-western New Brunswick. He is delighted that his 18 year old granddaughter, Vicky Buteau, a student at the Kingston Royal Military College, will also be donning the military uniform. Vicky is part of a third generation military, as her father also had his career in the Canadian Forces. As she is about to embark on new life adventure by marrying a young soldier, Vicky and her grandfather Robert discuss life’s challenges and the feeling of helplessness peacekeepers feel in difficult situations that are part of everyday life during a peace mission. Robert also shares his passion for the management and protection of his woodlots with his granddaughter. As he explains to her: “I want to leave something behind.” A grandfather protects his forest under the tender gaze of his granddaughter.
